It's Perry Farrell's birthday!
The "Godfather of Alternative Music" actually got his start with Psi Com in the early 1980s, before forming Jane's Addiction. The band exploded in the late '80s L.A. music scene, blending all sounds of rock to create their signiture sound that would become a precursor to the oncoming Grunge explosion of the 90's. Their live performances and experimental production contributed to the rise of alternative music.
Perry would create the Lollapalooza tour, which evolved into an annual festival that features multiple genres of music. The first tour would serve as Jane's Addiction farewell, when the band went their separate ways at the end. Farrell would form Porno for Pyros, in their wake and continued annual Lollapalooza's until he left the festival to create the Enit Festival in 1995.
By the end of the decade Perry and Jane's Addiction would reunite and tour once again, with Farrell continuing to keep Porno For Pyros as a side project. Farrell would also release solo albums, and launch Kind Heaven Orchestra and Heaven After Dark.
Farrell is a genuine innovator in the world of rock and his influence is felt to this day. He reignitied the festival craze that is an annual right of music for all genres today and the music Jane's Addiction made shook the foundations of the overpopulated Hair Metal dominance in the 80's to help give birth to the socially conscious 90's.
