A man who shot a Sacramento sheriff's K9 has died. He was pronounced deceased this afternoon at a local hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Robby Joe Wolff, 42, has been identified by the Coroner's Office and confirmed by Detectives to be the suspect responsible for shooting Sacramento Sheriff K9-Drago.
It was around 4:30 this morning when that man ditched a stolen car along Elverta Road in Rio Linda and ran into a field, turning to fire eight rounds at deputies, one of which hit a police dog in pursuit.
He's a german shepherd/malawa, his name is Drago
Sheriff's Spokeswoman Lisa Bowman says the six-year-old was taken to a vet with a clean wound through the chest. Deputies surrounded the field, staked it out for hours and found their suspect just after sunrise after he'd turned the gun on himself.
"He has a self-inflicted gunshot would to the head."
Drago was expected to be released from the vet's office Saturday at 11 a.m.
Both Drago and his handler are doing fine.
