Jonathan Denver, 24, was stabbed to death at a Giants versus Dodgers game on Wednesday night.
The incident began when San Francisco fans and Los Angeles fans got into an argument in the vicinity of AT&T Park around 11:39 p.m.
At some point during the argument, Denver, a Dodgers fan who was attending the game with his family, was stabbed near Third and Harrison streets.
Denver was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead from his wounds.
Police detained three people and conducted witness interviews to gather more information. Reports say that two people remain in custody and one person is facing homicide charges.
The rivalry between the northern and southern Californian teams has escalated into fan violence on previous occasions, the most infamous of which involved Giants fan Bryan Stow being severely beaten by Dodgers fans on opening day 2011.
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Thursday afternoon that 24-year-old Denver was the son of one of the team's security guards.
Spokesman Jared Kaufer said Thursday that Jonathan Denver's father worked security at Dodger Stadium.
